Examples of monetizing digital music...

So the question is how to monetize music as a relatively small or independent artist.

Because I love how web 2.0 is allowing expression, this quick article explores how to quickly get your music out there.

I love that an artist who is ripping songs in their garage at night can then begin to distribute their music and see the impact it makes. For ANY artist I'd recommend having a site that allows the online Guest to come back and explore the personality and the motivation for the music.

Business model - www.amystreet.com has a model that I find compelling. All music starts off as free, and as more and more downloads occur, the price begins to increase up to a capped market value of .98 cents. What I like about this is when the music is free or relatively inexpensive, the price point drives downloads and musical exploration. As the popularity of the music increases, the price point rises which then tells others that there's something good happening here. This then feeds the artist and the self sustaining echo system that is music discovery and artist reimbursement.

Another cool model is SNOCAP (www.snocap.com). They are the creators of the myStore application on www.myspace.com and are creating a music registry that continues to grow. After signing up with SNOCAP, you can then begin to distribute your music via the SNOCAP application and begin to see how the market responds to your sound.

Obviously there are lots of additional elements to monetizing your assets, and they are covered high level on the page called ‘digital assets?’
